Manor Poultry - Breeders of Large Fowl and Bantam Orpingtons
Welcome!

Our names are Paul &Tina Jones.

We are a couple of Orpington breeders who fell in love with the breed in July 2008 and were bitten by the "Show Bug" in May 2009.

We are breeders of buff large and black bantam Orpingtons that are bred to exhibition standard from our show stock.

Manor Poultry are based in Staffordshire in the Midlands UK

We specialise in large fowl Buff Orpingtons and were introduced to the show strain by Susie Page of Pages Poultry who had just purchased direct from the Pownall bloodline. The Buff Orpington was introduced in 1894 to satisfy the demand for buff coloured birds. The new variety was achieved by crossing gold spangled Hamburg cocks with dark and red Dorking hens and then mating the offspring pullets with Buff Cochin cocks.

Our initial breeding trio were purchased from David Pownall and we have added to the Pownall strain with some stock from the Will Burdett and Ian Davies lines.
Our first show with a Buff was the Lichfield Show at Stafford where he won the Orpington class. Our cockerel was bred in late Autumn 2008 from the Pownall line and he went on to then win best in show at Market Bosworth, best large fowl at the Ashby County show and then best large soft feather at the very last Royal Show.

We have had several different Buffs up on Championship row over the past 28 months.
But the buff cock below is now our most successful Orpington winning 25 Orpington classes, 14 best large soft feather positions, was best opposite sex to the show champion and best Orpington at Ribble Valley, was best opposite sex at at the Ashbourne show, Regional Buff Orpington Champion 2011 at the Northern Show in Hipperholme and has won best in show three times. He was 4th at the 2010 National, 2nd at the 2010 Federation and 1st at the Scottish National all in cockerel classes. He has also won a regional PCGB diploma.

We purchased our first black bantams from both David Pownall and Graham Hodge (Graham has lines from David Pownall, Roger Clark and Brian Anderton).
Our initial black pair from David have done quite well on the show scene, both coming 3rd in the pullet and cockerel classes at the National in Stoneleigh 2009. The pullet also came 3rd at the Federation 2009 show at Stafford. They are now in the breeding pen and again we hope to hatch some winners!

We were introduced to Chocolate Orpingtons by fellow Orp lovers Rob and Anita Armes of Ramsley Orpingtons, who had some hatching eggs from Rob Boyd and have had great success breeding from the birds they hatched. We no longer have the Chocolates as a fox kindly helped themselves to them over the past few weeks!!

Keiths Orps has recently been to collect some breeding stock from us - 2 nice cockerels and 5 lovely pullets all bred from our David Pownall exhibition line. The cockerels are full brothers to our Buff who was best large soft feather at the Lichfield show at Stafford on 3rd June 2010.

Our large black Orpingtons have gone to Southern Ireland with our good friends Con & Patrick Sheehan. We have decided to concentrate on our buffs as space is limited!
Hopefully they will breed lots of potential winners!!

Another couple of fellows have also been and taken the Ian Davis breeding trio we had, as we have several chicks from them to grow on this season.

Naomi Smith and her daughters Alicia and Tahlia have been doing really well at the shows recently with a large buff cockerel and a black bantam pullet we gave them earlier in the year - well done girls!!

Here are a few photos of our Orps, hopefully they will show the true beauty of the breed and the fantastic 'type' for showing, which we have tried to keep true. There are lots of nice pictures on our show news page too - including pictures from Rupert Stephenson and Tim at Poultry Keeper.
